Villa Meriggio Valeggio sul Mincio — Veneto Secrets

With a splendid view of the Mincio Valley and the Visconteo Bridge, Villa Meriggio is one of the most beautiful Art Noveau mansions in Italy, surrounded by generous nature with the charm of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon and embellished by the works of many artists, from Kiefer to Mitoraj, who make it a place of inspiration and reflection.

Villa Meriggio, near Lake Garda, is a place of absolutes and reflection on the divine at the same time: the protagonist of one of the most beautiful walled towns in Italy, Borghetto sul Mincio, the most fascinating Art Noveau Villa in Veneto, the one with the most spectacular view, and a selection of touching works of art that dialogue with nature and invite you to go beyond.

Its name, in fact, is due to the philosophy that inspired its restoration: the Philosophy of Meriggio, a moment that in ancient Greece was considered propitious for the appearance of divinities and divine creatures; a concept that in a modern key represents the opportunity to be fascinated by the power and beauty of Nature, capable of stimulating our imagination and going beyond existing reality.

Whoever crosses the threshold of Villa Meriggio is enchanted by the beauty of the continuous dialogue between nature and the works of art that express classical wisdom in which everything is generated through nature.

(Alessandra Pacilli)

Entrepreneurs Denis Faccioli and Alessandra Pacilli fell in love with Villa Meriggio, built in 1917 in the Art Nouveau style of the time, so much so that they decided to buy it in 2019 to realize their dream of contributing to improving the world through a cultural project linked to the osmosis between events and artists and philosophers of our time.

The soul of this visionary project is above all Alessandra who comes from a long path of humanistic studies, which led her over time to specialize in the analysis of the dynamics and management of the museum institution. After a meticulous philological restoration, today Villa Meriggio is, first and foremost, a location for events and the seat of exclusive events linked to the world of art and culture in general. In 2024, Fondazione Meriggio was also established, a non-profit organization that supports and promotes projects that can be a valuable contribution to the community in the present and future.

The Villa and Nature continually exchange and contaminate each other in dialogue, in the classical awareness that from Nature everything is generated, everything becomes, everything returns. Even the choice of the wonderful works of art that decorate the garden supports this philosophy, such as a statue of Las Meninas by Manolo Valdés, which was exhibited in Piazza San Marco in April 2024, Nude by Igor Mitoraj, protagonist of the famous exhibition in Pompeii, and Julia by Jaume Plensa, which in a 12-meter version decorates Plaza de Colòn in Madrid.

The rooms have very refined furnishings, from the Panton chairs by Vitra in velvet to the tables in red Levanto marble, from the Flos lights to the sculpture armchairs by AP Collection, and, obviously, many works that change and evolve continuously due to the passion of the owners, collaborations, and exhibitions, such as the works Bergkristall and Sol Invictus Elagabal by Anselm Kiefer, the bas-reliefs in exploded plaster La Materia Oscura by Matteo Mezzadri or the painting Variazione “Libertà che guida il popolo” by Jorge R. Palombo.

The Secret

Although the details of its first owners remain shrouded in mystery, Villa Meriggio preserves beautiful original elements of Art Nouveau architecture, such as the stucco decorations depicting lion heads, the rams on the capitals of the colonnade or the symbols in the historic fountains attributable to the zodiac signs of the first owners, as was the fashion of the time. In ancient times, the residence was surrounded by vineyards that extended to the foot of the Scaligero castle of Valeggio sul Mincio.
