Atelier Teod’amar — Veneto Secrets

In Venice, the atelier of wonders of the designer and artisan Norma Marzà who uses precious fabrics and decorations from the tradition of the Serenissima to give life to unique handmade creations.

In Campo Manin, very close to Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo, Norma’s atelier is a Wunderkammer of objects and styles that tell the story of Venice and the fashions it has launched with contemporary taste: dresses, caftans, vests, coffee bags (basket-shaped bags of Arab origin), bags, friulane shoes (traditional Venetian footwear of Friulian origin, made famous by gondoliers), turbans and bijoux, boat accessories, beach towels and even home accessories such as lampshades, runners, tablecloths, cushions, hand-painted tiles.

In 2017, Norma, of Sicilian origins and Venetian by adoption, coming from a completely different sector, became passionate about tailoring by a twist of fate, thanks to a batch of precious fabrics she came across. It was then her love for Venice that led her to open her first workshop, where she began to hand-make unique pieces inspired by the history of the Serenissima Republic of Venice.

My source of inspiration is Venice, queen of the seas and historic landing place of precious goods arriving along the amber and silk routes, and my goal is to keep its craftsmanship alive and make it known throughout the world.

(Norma Marzà)

She loves to search for fine fabrics, contemporary and vintage, from linen to silk, from velvet to cotton terry damask and brocade. In particular, by companies like Bevilacqua and Rubelli, excellences that carry on the tradition in the Venetian art of silk fabrics, but also that she falls in love with during her travels, like Fornasetti, or even coming from recycled wood paneling from palaces in the Lagoon.

Norma often “hosts” in her atelier also pieces from other brands of high artistic craftsmanship or from local artists with whom she has come into contact and who embrace her same philosophy.

Projects and collaborations are always evolving, like the new lampshades that Norma can personalize with initials or decorations by painting them by hand.

Each piece is unique and made in the laboratory located on the mainland in Ca’ Barbaro, near Casier in the province of Treviso, where Norma with her team of seamstresses designs and sews everything strictly with artisanal methods.
