In the heart of Cannaregio, precisely at number 2535 of the romantic Fondamenta della Misericordia, among cosy restaurants and bohemian wine bars, Sullaluna, a truly unique bookshop & bistrot, is just the perfect place for a relaxing break.
Managed by Francesca, owner of an organic farm in the Prosecco Hills and super fan of illustrated books, this original cafè boasts a nice retro vibe: from the ancient beams to the original floor, every architectural element has been brought back to life by removing layers and layers of the plasterboard that previously covered the walls.
Among dozens of coloured books, framed just as if they were works of art, the décor is minimal yet welcoming, made of vintage details and tiny bunches of aromatic herbs placed on the recovered wood tables. The beautiful counter in natural marmorino (a local kind of plaster used for decorations) recalls the ancient flavour of the environment, enhanced by the industrial wall in glass and steel that separates the kitchen from the main room.
In Refrontolo, a small town not far from Treviso surrounded by vineyards, Francesca produces an excellent Prosecco DOCG Bio named “Lunatico”. A small production carried out with total respect for the territory, biodiversity as well as “conscious” viticulture techniques.
All the products offered in the bistro are also strictly organic and coming from small local producers. From handmade desserts to organic fruit juices, including an excellent Trentino cider, herbal teas and natural infusions for a special breakfast or an afternoon break. Moreover, the menu includes good craft beers and organic wines, both red and white, to be paired with excellent cheese platters with fresh wood-baked bread or vegetarian dishes.
On sunny days, just take a seat along the canal and let yourself be pampered by the gentle rhythms of the most magical city in the world.
In the vineyard where the Lunatico wine is born, each plant cut or vineyard maintenance is done waiting for a favorable moon phase in order to maximize the benefits of the favorable power of the astronomical body.
