In Monfumo, with a wonderful view of the surrounding hills, a truly rare osteria that impeccably combines a century of history and traditional recipes with a sophisticated international contemporary vibe.

The history of Osteria alla Baracca strikes you straight from the heart as soon as you climb the hills of Monfumo, a small village near Asolo, and spot, along the road, a red building bearing the date “1915-18” in large white lettering.

Its epic story begins during the First World War, when the building was used as a military shelter. It was at the end of the Second World War, in 1945, that it was purchased by Ferruccio Forner, who began serving simple, authentic traditional Venetian dishes there.

It’s an honor for us to continue the story of a place so rich in significance, not only for Monfumo but for the entire Veneto region.

(Andrea Sbrissa and Giacomo Baron)

It was succeeded by various owners, including the famous Romeo Andriolo, the “stern but tender-hearted” innkeeper, who ran La Baracca for 26 years. When Romeo retired, the inn was left without a leader until Giacomo Baron and Andrea Sbrissa, after a conversation with owner Sandra, daughter of Ferruccio Forner and a family friend, fell in love with the idea of reviving La Baracca.

And here’s where the magic happens: 100 years of history and tradition combine with the expertise of Giacomo, an established interior designer who, with his company, Bamax, has furnished some of Italy’s most beautiful venues and hotels, and Andrea, with whom he shares a passion for winemaking and gastronomy at the helm of Tenuta Baron, a renowned winery in the Asolo area.

Since 2022, they have been the “hosts” of Osteria alla Baracca, renovating it without betraying its original spirit. Loyal customers can rediscover all its beloved features: the famous terrace overlooking the hills, the bar that has served thousands of “ombre” (glasses of wine in the local slang) and traditional dishes.

The menu features all the great, delicious classics typical of these hills: from bread gnocchi on a cream of Treviso chickory and crispy speck to tagliatelle with venison ragù and bigoli in salsa, from tartare to beef tagliara with baked Montello potatoes and rabbit “in tecia” (cooked in a pan). These are complemented by a wine list boasting around 100 wines with a focus on the local area.

At La Baracca, you can book on the beautiful veranda with a view, open even in the winter, or on the small panoramic terrace on the first floor in the summer, and in the warm indoor dining room in the winter.

And in November 2025, a new addition —the Wine Room —has opened, with independent access. Once used as the former host’s living room, it has been restored to host private dinners and parties, and is decorated with an original kitchen stove, shelves filled with wine bottles, and a selection of paintings by Venetian artists from the personal collection of Domenico Baron, founder of Tenuta Baron.

Like the trattorias of old, at Osteria alla Baracca everything is homemade, from pasta to gnocchi. The meats are carefully selected by a butcher in Asolo, the mushrooms come from the woods of Monfumo, and the cheeses and vegetables are locally sourced.

1940s charm, a forward-looking international vision, and a timeless soul: Osteria alla Baracca awaits you.

The Secret

The hills of the province of Treviso, from Montello to Asolo, are renowned for their cuisine. This prestige is also due to the intense historical periods they have witnessed, such as Monfumo, when, after being the site of two world wars in a short space of time, numerous licenses were granted to open inns and trattorias and encourage their post-war recovery.
