La Ghiandaia Farmhouse
In the hills of Conegliano, a charming retreat born in the shade of a centuries-old oak tree

Nestled in the scenic hills of Conegliano, La Ghiandaia is a charming retreat, an eco-resort part of L'Antica Quercia biodynamic farm, protected by the soothing breath of a centuries-old oak tree.
On the panoramic hills of Scomigo, amidst lands long suited to viticulture and now part of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene appellation, La Ghiandaia Farmhouse, inaugurated in late 2025, completes the world of L’Antica Quercia farm and winery, born from the dream of Claudio Francavilla’s family.
The acorn is the fruit of the oak, a “magical” tree that has always protected these hills, a favorite of the jay, the bird that inspired the farm (jay is Ghiandaia in Italian). The farm takes its name from two oak trees, 400 and 200 years old, located in a panoramic position among the expanses of vineyards on the more than 30 hectares of the biodynamic estate.

The most beautiful dreams are born in the shade of a big tree.
(Claudio Francavilla)
A residence in symbiosis with nature, where the “terroir” becomes art
After acquiring the land in 2001, Claudio Francavilla fell so in love with the estate that he decided to purchase an old country house from the early 1900s located just steps from the winery, making it his natural “extension,” a place not only to sleep, but also to “inhabit” the landscape.
Every detail of the farmhouse speaks of the territory, with a curious distinction. La Ghiandaia is the first residence where the terroir is even part of the furnishings. The plasterwork is, in fact, a work of art created by artist Isabella Breda, who used the raw earth from the excavation, mixing it with lime and natural oxides, to create highly evocative textured walls. To sleep, literally, embraced by nature.

Nature “shaped” by local artisans
The materials used for the structure are mostly locally sourced, as are the artisans who worked them.
The stones come from abandoned quarries in the Cansiglio area, where the last blocks were purchased years ago by craftsman Mattia Zambon of Refrontolo, who cut and installed them. The fabrics used for blankets, textile paintings, and inserts are from Lanificio Paoletti in Follina, which artist Fosca Milano has given a second life to. The doors were crafted by a carpenter using oak wood recycled from beams from old abandoned farmhouses. These are just a few examples that demonstrate the incredible symbiosis between nature and the agritourism.

The rooms and the open-air spa
There are eight rooms, all with panoramic views, including two superior suites with a sitting area and king-size bed, one with a whirlpool tub and the other with a private sauna.
The resort’s magic lies in its surrounding nature. There are many areas to enjoy, including the outdoor solarium with two whirlpool tubs surrounded by greenery, an indoor spa with a sauna and Turkish bath, and the large garden. A true masterpiece, the original tree population has been preserved, complemented by tall native trees, such as the mulberry trees and hornbeams planted at the entrance, making it a living picture in every season.

Homemade organic breakfast
The sweet and savory breakfast ritual is wonderful, featuring farm-fresh and local produce, including cakes and various homemade or freshly prepared specialties, such as pancakes.
You can start the day sipping a coffee while the sun rises behind the peaks of the Alpine foothills, reading the newspaper in the living room with its bookcase, and then continuing with a glass of wine in the comfortable Honesty Bar.

Tastings and Relaxation Tours
Guests can book a tasting of biodynamic wines from L’Antica Quercia, the winery located just one kilometer from the property and accessible via a wonderful walk.
From the farmhouse, paths lead to the famous centuries-old oak trees, giants that inspired the creation of the property. And that’s the real magic: sitting on the wooden bench under the great oak and beginning, perhaps for the first time, to truly breathe.

The Secret
La Ghiandaia is the only resort in Veneto where you can “experience” oak trees from 0 to 400 years old. It’s common to see the agriturismo staff collecting newly sprouted “baby oaks” and planting them, or relaxing in the shade of the 400-year-old “mother oak.” A beneficial and majestic tree, despite being struck by lightning in the 1970s, which created a curious cavity in its large trunk.
