Villa Cordevigo Wine Relais (VR)
Immersed in the wonderful nature of Bardolino, on Lake Garda, Villa Cordevigo Wine Relais is one of the most beautiful Relais & Châteaux in Italy that enchants in all its aspects: architectonical, cultural and gastronomic.
The arrival at Villa Cordevigo is one that is never forgotten. An enchanted nature envelops the visitor, with the sweetness of the slopes of Bardolino, a few kilometers from Lake Garda, the ever-changing green of the expanses of olive trees and vineyards, the long avenue of imposing cypresses that leads us to the entrance of the resort.
The history of the Wine Relais, 5-star luxury, part of the Relais & Châteaux association, 1 Michelin star with its Oseleta restaurant, and from 2022 part of the Virtuoso Sustainability Community, begins in Roman times, when the fertile generosity of these lands was already known, and lives rich pages of history in the late Renaissance with the Lombard counts. Owners of the feudal rights in Cavaion until the fall of the Venetian Republic, it was, in particular, Marco Antonio Lombardo, Bishop of Crema and lord of the place, who made important improvements to the villa in the second half of the eighteenth century, including the renovation of the romantic 15th-century church dedicated to San Martino, whose bell tower dominates the internal courtyard of the relais.
The enhancement of the culture, the traditions, and the land of our territory. This is our concept of hospitality.
(Cristoforetti and Delibori Families)
It was then owned by other families – the Moreschi, the Saladini and the Dolci – until at the beginning of 2000 it was bought by the Delibori and Cristoforetti families, former owners of the farm that managed all the land surrounding the villa. It is the beginning of its return to the glories of the past, making it an important agricultural and cultural center of the classic Bardolino.
After a long conservative restoration, in 2011 the relais reopens with the first suites, in 2013 it wins the Michelin star and since then it has been a succession of extensions, innovations, projects, all in the name of love for the wonderful territory in which it stands. The resort is, in fact, immersed in a 100-hectare estate on the hills of Cavaion Veronese, 23 of which from organic cultivation, where the Villabella Vineyards, the winery founded in 1971 by Walter Delibori and Giorgio Cristoforetti, are located.
An estate designed to perfection for the well-being of its guests: from the relaxing Italian garden, to the park with centuries-old trees, from fitness paths among the olive trees, to the wonderful panoramic swimming pool overlooking the vineyards and a veranda pool bar that looks like out of the Great Gatsby Villa.
The 40 rooms and suites of Villa Cordevigo are each different from the other. From the charm of the history of the Stanza del Vescovo suite, made unique by the large Bavarian-style fireplace, a testimony of the last world war when the Villa was occupied by German troops who decided to build a fireplace here, up to the brand new Astolfo and Gaudenzia suites. The rooms are named after the two owners of Villa Cordevigo whose traces have been found through the studies carried out to recreate the genealogical tree of the various families that have followed one another over time. The common denominator is a timeless decor, with precious elements of Venetian noble palaces, marble bathrooms with marvelous giant whirlpools and delightful touches of style such as Brondi’s retro-style telephones or Murano glass objects.
The Relais offers two restaurants, Oseleta, one Michelin star, with the guide of chef Marco Marras and its splendid veranda, and the more informal Bistrot where in summer you can eat overlooking the vineyards and the swimming pool.
Before or after dinner, a drink at Bar Fiordilej is not to be missed, in winter in its American Bar where you can taste the excellent Gin Villa Cordevigo produced with the berries of the resort’s cypress trees, and in summer on the wonderful baroque terrace overlooking the secular park.
Do not miss the tasting of the wine production of the estate which includes all the great classics of the territory such as Bardolino, Lugana, Custoza, Soave, Valpolicella, Ripasso and Amarone and, last but not least, great white and red IGT grapes from native grapes of the province of Verona.
Even the breakfast ritual, served in the Bistrot, offers the opportunity to taste the delicacies that grow on the estate, such as honey and products from the garden grown with love just a few meters from the pool.
The ultra-modern Spa Essentia completes the resort’s services, offering whirlpools, Finnish sauna, infrared sauna, Turkish bath, emotional showers, gym and relaxation rooms with herbal teas.
History, art, good food and wine, relaxation by the pool, bicycles (vintage chic or electric) for a picnic among the vineyards, Lake Garda just a few kilometers away, and Verona half an hour away. Will a weekend be enough?
The Secret
On the walls of the small Church of San Martino there are more than three thousand relics of saints collected, to prevent them from being stolen by the invaders, by Bishop Marcantonio Lombardo during the eighteenth century. A wonder that can be admired today by all guests of the Resort.
