In Venice, near the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute, the Sina Centurion Palace is one of the most spectacular art hotels in the lagoon, boasting splendid views of the Grand Canal and the exquisite flavors of Antinoo's Lounge & Restaurant.

The 5-star Sina Centurion Palace, opened in 2009, is housed in a historic Venetian Gothic-style palazzo built in 1892 for the Genovese family. It is close to some of Venice’s most famous attractions, including the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute, Punta della Dogana, home of the Francois Pinault Foundation, and the Guggenheim Museum.

The Sina Hotels chain was founded in 1958 by Count Ernesto Bocca with the aim of creating a group of high-end hotels, continuing a long tradition of luxury hotels in Italy that has lasted more than 60 years.

Since its inception, the Sina Centurion Palace has been dedicated to the cult of Beauty, from its Roman origins to the greatest contemporary artists working in Venice.

The hotel is located in the Dorsoduro district, the oldest in Venice. During the renovation of the Palazzo, the ancient remains of the destroyed monastery of San Gregorio were first discovered. Further excavations uncovered the remains of 9th-century wooden residential structures and a 7th-century stone building, where a rare coin bearing the effigy of Antinous was found.

This discovery inspired the hotel’s concept and the name of its restaurant, as it captures the allure of ancient Greece, the grandeur of the Roman Empire, and the myth of eternal love. Antinous, a beautiful young Greek who died young, is said to have had a romantic relationship with Emperor Hadrian, who encouraged his cult during his reign.

The interior design, thanks to the talent of architect Guido Ciompi, blends perfectly with the palace’s neo-Gothic style. Color dominates the interior: from the crimson of the Presidential Suite, the largest in Venice with a magnificent balcony overlooking the Grand Canal, to the yellow of the gold-leaf bathrooms. Each piece of furniture is unique, inspired by Venetian craftsmanship.

The Sina Centurion Palace is home to Antinoo’s Lounge & Restaurant, where you can savor the best of Venice with contemporary flair and truly excellent ingredients. Here, the Executive Chef Giancarlo Bellino‘s cuisine combines the sunshine of his native Puglia with traditional lagoon ingredients.

Antinoo’s is divided between the White Room, the Red Room, the purple-hued Bar, and the terrace overlooking the Grand Canal, a setting for aperitifs and dinners of great impact. Few places in Venice offer the opportunity to dine so close to the water, enjoying the comings and goings of boats on the Grand Canal.

Sina Centurion Palace offers 50 rooms, including the stunning suites overlooking the Grand Canal, such as the Deluxe Suite with a spacious living room and a dramatic wall of evocative giant gothic arched windows.

The Sina Centurion Palace has always been closely linked to the world of contemporary art, a philosophy reflected in its extensive exhibition of works by illustrious names such as Tony Cragg, Gavin Rain, Helidon Xhixha, Richard Orlinski, and many others. It also collaborates with various galleries, such as the nearby Galleria Ravagnan, which has loaned Andrea Roggi’s “The Balance of Our Love,” which overlooks the Grand Canal.

The Sina Centurion Palace is one of the most evocative locations in Venice, where history and modernity blend seamlessly, and the venue for many city events, including the Venice Film Festival.

The Secret

Even the name Centurion Palace recalls the Roman cultural origins of Venice’s history; a canvas by Francesco Polazzo depicting Christ with a centurion, a Roman soldier in charge of a century, is preserved in the nearby church of San Trovaso.
