Hotel Villa Cipriani, one of the most elegant 5-star hotels in the world, reopens with many news and its timeless highlights like the old-world allure, a spectacular view of the rolling hills of Asolo, and one of the most beautiful infinity pools in Italy.
Hotel Villa Cipriani embodies all the magic of Asolo through time thanks to the heritage of its most illustrious people: Queen Caterina Cornaro and her court, the British touch of Lord Rupert Guinness, the elegance of restaurateur Giuseppe Cipriani, and today the passion of its splendid hostess, Sigrid Guillion-Mangilli Zanetti. Thanks to her touch, the hotel has undertaken a refined restyling that enhances the best of every era that the legendary residence has gone through, while maintaining the contemporaneity of its luxurious 5-star comfort.
The famous hotel reopens on March 14, 2025, in grand style with a completely renewed gastronomic offer, thanks to the arrival of chef Marco Pinelli and new style details in the rooms and common areas, first and foremost the restaurant and the veranda.
Villa Cipriani is a place that I have loved and frequented since I was a child, for this reason I have put all my strength into knowing its history to make it shine again in every single detail.
(Sigrid Guillion-Mangilli)
The history of Hotel Villa Cipriani is inextricably linked with that of Asolo, one of the most beautiful towns in Italy, famous for being the theater of the sumptuous Renaissance court of Queen Caterina Cornaro and, in more recent times, a second “home” for a cultured Anglo-Saxon community that gave it that international allure so rare for a small Italian city.
Born as a private residence of noble Venetian families, in the second half of the 19th century the Villa became the residence of the English poet Robert Browning and then of his son Pen who contributed to making Asolo a point of reference for the British aristocracy.
In 1952 it was sold to Lord Rupert Guinness, a great philanthropist and founder of the Irish brewery of the same name, who transformed it into a hotel. In 1960 the management was entrusted to Giuseppe Cipriani, founder of Harry’s Bar in Venice who, with his ability to attract the international beau monde, became one of the most glamorous hotels in history.
From Marcello Mastroianni with Catherine Deneuve to Vittorio de Sica and Orson Welles, from Gianni Agnelli, Sharon Stone to Albert of Monaco, up to Prince Philip of Edinburgh and the Queen Mother of England, many illustrious guests have chosen it as their second home in Italy.
After the Cipriani and CIGA Hotels management, less bright years followed, until the Villa was purchased in 2012 by the entrepreneur Massimo Zanetti and his wife Sigrid Guillion-Mangilli, long-time loyal regulars of the Hotel.
Sigrid, in love with this place, began to study its history, making, one step at a time, many improvements to enhance its charm without distorting it. She chose new fabrics for the rooms, called on the historic collaborators of the famous architect Lorenzo Mongiardino (who from the 1960s onwards signed some of the most elegant homes in the world) for the wall decorations, reordered, exactly the same, the handmade Vietri sul Mare ceramics for the bathrooms, even restored the original display cases in the hall that she enriched with artisanal products that express the best of the territory, such as handmade brushes and perfumes created specifically for each customer.
The kitchen has also been completely renovated and entrusted to chef Marco Pinelli, boasting a long experience in 5-star structures around the world, from London to Cortina, who interprets with contemporary elegance the classic flavors of the Venetian tradition of Giuseppe Cipriani.
The restaurant tables overlook the wonderful English garden, the real gem of the structure which has been included in the Garden of Excellence circuit of the American Horticultural Society since the 90s and awarded the Top 10 Magnificent Gardens by Historic Hotels Worldwide in 2019.
From here, you can access the infinity pool with solarium and hydromassage and the Rosmarino Bistrot, located on a lowered level so that guests can enjoy the panorama without disturbing the view of those sitting on the veranda and vice versa.
On the sides of the veranda, we find two rooms decorated with walls covered with striped cherry and walnut boiserie, Scottish tartan carpeting and comfortable leather and velvet armchairs. They are, respectively, the American Bar in pure Harry’s Bar style and the new Sala Regina Cornaro with a cozy fireplace, which transports us to a warm retro atmosphere that speaks of 19th century England and has the scents of a liqueur sipped slowly, in complete privacy.
There are 28 rooms, all different from each other in colors, decorations and fabrics, among which the Duse Suite stands out, with walls painted in Venetian red by hand by a local artist, and the Terrace Junior Suites with large terraces overlooking the hills and the pool, where it is also possible to dine in complete privacy.
The facilities are completed by a wellness area, also open to outsiders, with a sauna, Turkish bath, gym, cabins for massages and treatments, and spaces for private pilates or yoga lessons.
Hotel Villa Cipriani is a unique place in the world that combines echoes of the Republic of Venice, hints of Victorian England, and memories of Italy’s Dolce Vita, nestled among the Treviso hills, surrounded by olive groves and Palladian villas, the perfect starting point for discovering the many beauties of the Veneto.
The Secret
In a constant search for the perfect union between past and future, Sigrid Guillion-Mangilli purchased some of the furnishings from the charming grand hotels of the CIGA chain to which the Cipriani also belonged, from the minibar cabinets of The Gritti Palace in Venice to the leather armchairs of the Des Bains on the Lido that today embellish the American Bar.
