Bar Bibliothèque Nolinski Venezia (VE)

One of the most beautiful bars in the world, the 5-star Nolinski Venezia is a splendid homage to the art of typography that originated in the Lagoon, immersed in a library dedicated to the glories of the Serenissima and decorated with splendid works by the artist Simon Buret.
Such beauty could only arise from a very specific vision, that of Pierre Bastid, developed by Romain Yzerman and the general director Emmanuel Sauvage, the three partners of the Evok Group, with the aim of giving life to luxury hospitality projects capable of expressing the highest artistic DNA of the cities in which they are located.
For their first hotel in Venice they chose, in Calle Larga XXXII Marzo, the building that for years housed the Stock Exchange, characterized by a majestic façade adorned with chimeras, the daughters of Poseidon, which recall the power acquired by the Serenissima Republic of Venice thanks to the trade favored by the waters, and by a refined mix of Art Nouveau and Modernism.

The bar is the place where anything can happen. It lives and changes light from morning to evening. It must inspire a sense of freedom, dream and great attention to service.
(Emmanuel Sauvage)
The renovation project was entrusted to a “dream team”: the architect Alberto Torsello, Compasso d’Oro winner in 2018, the interior designers Yann Le Coadic & Alessandro Scotto, the gallery owner Amélie Du Chalard, who brought together a collection of art objects which an esthete traveler would bring with him from all over the world and from all eras, and Fred Viktor and Jerry Bouthier as “tailors of sound”.
The result, on the 5 floors of the building, is a masterpiece of manufacturing art created by the expert hands of master craftsmen: from the marmorino finishings contrasting with the boiseries to the mango wood frames, up to the many ancient and contemporary works of art positioned in every corner of the hotel.
Climbing up the suggestive red velvet covered staircase, the Bar Bibliothèque is located on the third floor of the building, a very intimate place, designed as an extension of the elegant colonnade of the hall, and surrounded by an elegant boiserie that acts as a theatrical backdrop to the refined American Bar.
Arranged over 64 linear metres, the protagonists of the space are the over 4,000 books, homage to the Serenissima, selected by Anatole Desachy, an independent bookseller, and the wonderful fresco on the ceiling created site-specific by Simon Buret.
An original marine sky with a mermaid in the center who blesses the space with open arms, in which the sea urchins are stars and the fish are birds immersed in the blue of an extraordinary homage to the lagoon city.
The drinks menu was created by Jérémy Bacquet, Bar Creation Director of the Evok Group who created a menu of great classics and more creative cocktails inspired by the islands of Venice, to accompany savory snacks such as refined sandwiches and focaccias.
And to continue dreaming even after the aperitif, the hotel offers 43 rooms including 13 suites, an Ottoman-inspired Spa, the Palais Royal Restaurant, and, on the top panoramic floor, a gold mosaic swimming pool with a view over the Venetian skies and rooftops. What else?
The Bar Bibliothèque Nolinski Venezia is open every day from 5.30 pm to 1.30 am.
The Secret
Completed in 1926, the building is made of reinforced concrete, a material used on that occasion for the first time in the Lagoon, and dominates due to its height. In fact, only the bell tower and the Cathedral of the Basilica of San Marco are higher than the Nolinski Venezia in the neighborhood.
