In perfect alpine-chic style, Baita Pie Tofana, with its elegant terrace at the foot of the Tofane, is the ideal destination for a unique gastronomic experience in the heart of Cortina's Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The history of the Baita begins in ’62, when the Calzà family opens a restaurant at the foot of the Tofane, and it is renewed in 2019 with the management of Michel Oberhammer, following the beautiful restyling, curated by the creative studio Visual Display, which has highlighted the venue’s alpine-chic elegance, while at the same time enhancing Cortina d’Ampezzo’s heritage.
In fact, one of the cult scenes of the legendary film Christmas Holidays 1983, starring Christian De Sica and Karina Huff (which you see framed in a photo behind the bar), was shot at the restaurant, featured also in the following sequels, Christmas Holidays 2000 and Christmas Holidays in Cortina 2011.
Hospitality means generosity and conviviality to me. Baita Piè Tofana is a dream come true, a place that thrives on passion, history and authenticity.
(Michel Oberhammer, owner)
Kissed by the sun, the ancient sign of the hut frames the picturesque terrace of the restaurant that overlooks one of the most beautiful ski slopes in Italy, the protagonist of the Cortina 2021 World Ski Championships and the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games.
A fundamental value for Michel is the impeccable service, ready to pamper customers at any time, making them feel all the coziness of these mountains. And so, the typical larin (fireplace) becomes a large convivial table, while the warmth of the fire, the soft lights on the fir walls, handcrafted by the Menardi carpentry in Cortina, as well as the precious fabrics by Rubelli and Mark Alexander definitely warm up the atmosphere.
I select those wines that have left an indelible mark on me. Wines that speak about land, places and people.
(Michel Oberhammer, owner)
Intertwining past and present, the cuisine reinterprets traditions with a contemporary taste. The culinary proposals are signed by Chef Federico Rovacchi, arriving in Piè Tofana after the starred experience as sous-chef at the St. Hubertus of Rosa Alpina.
On the menu, we find “trendy traditional” dishes, revisited with an innovative touch, based on hand-made pasta and mainly locally sourced ingredients, in order to enhance the commitment of small producers and bring regionality and seasonality to the plate.
The wine list boasts over 600 labels, an accurate selection signed by La Cave, the wine distribution company founded by Michel in 2009, which offers local wines, labels from the most famous international fashion houses, as well as large formats, perfect to celebrate the most special occasions.
A gourmet reference point for Cortina’s haute cuisine, Baita Piè Tofana is truly a heart-warming experience.
The Secret
Precisely because pampering the customer is essential, Michael makes the terrace available for private events, where the show cooking is done on a designer brazier, and offers exquisite gourmand hampers, to taste the delicacies of chef at home.
