In the center of Asolo, the famous 5-star hotel from the early 1900s is the pearl of hospitality in the romantic medieval town, with a breathtaking view of the Castle, charming rooms, and the unique care of its exquisite hosts Elena and Silvia.

Asolo and the Albergo al Sole are inextricably linked by an important history that has made the “City of a hundred horizons”, as it was nicknamed by Giosuè Carducci, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, inhabited by numerous historical figures in the past including Caterina Cornaro, Queen of Cyprus who made Asolo her court, and the poet Robert Browning who wrote the famous novel “Asolando” here.

The Albergo al Sole dominates the city of Asolo from its unique position, on the top of the hill, with an incomparable view of the main square, the suggestive roofs of the houses in the historic center, the Cathedral and the panorama from which the Euganean Hills can be seen in the distance.

Our passion is to create an atmosphere that focuses on detail, a combination of sounds, colors and flavors that can leave unique memories to our guests..

(Elena and Silvia)

Its history is blessed by an “all-female” destiny. Born, in fact, as a guesthouse at the beginning of the 1900s, it owes its popularity to the management of 2 sisters who made it one of the most important destinations of the aristocracy of the time. Abandoned after their retirement, it remained closed for many years until Vittorino De Checchi acquired it in 1992 and decided to renovate it.

Curiously, the daughters Elena and Silvia, still 2 sisters, although very young at the time, fell in love with the project, so much so that they convinced their father to leave the management to them. Since the opening, in 1996, of the renovated Albergo al Sole, Elena and Silvia have come a long way and today they are recognized among the greatest Italian hoteliers, famous for taking care of every aspect of the structure as if it were their home.

There are 23 rooms, including 2 junior suites with a wonderful view of the Caterina Cornaro Castle. Each room is different from the other and furnished with period furniture and charming bathrooms decorated with original handmade Vietri ceramics.

Each room is dedicated to famous people linked to the history of Asolo, among which room 202 stands out, where the actress Eleonora Duse had stayed for long periods in the 1920s, as evidenced by the authentic booking letters kept by Elena and Silvia (which can be shown on request), restored maintaining the same colors and the original style of the time.

Perfect for the colder seasons, the Hotel holds another romantic secret: the Grotta di Bacco, a corner of history dating back to the 16th century that was discovered during the hotel’s restoration in 1992.

Its frescoed vault is distinguished by the image of a man holding a wineskin and raising his hand in celebration, which is why it was named after Bacchus. A special location that can be booked with an exclusive reservation for candlelit dinners for up to 8 people.

Elena and Silvia’s perfect hospitality is completed with many other services: the gym, the e-bikes perfect for exploring the surroundings, the relaxation room for beauty & wellness treatments by reservation, and the convenient parking with Porsche & Tesla Charging Point.

And here is the fairy tale: the beauty of Asolo, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, experienced through the magic of one of the most “homy” hotels in Italy.

The Secret

Elena and Silvia’s father, Vittorino De Checchi, had founded San Marco Laterizi which had worked on the restoration of important monuments in Italy such as the Colosseum and the Terme di Caracalla in Rome. During a job in Campania, Vittorino had fallen in love with the Vietri ceramics which he had chosen to decorate the bathrooms of the Hotel, thus adding an indelible touch of “Dolce Vita” to the rooms of the structure.
