The Algiubagiò Terrace (VE)
In Fondamenta Nove, the fine dining restaurant Algiubagio', with its enchanting waterfront terrace and a cuisine that interprets the finest local ingredients, offers a journey through the authentic flavors of this region, from the freshest seafood to the wild herbs that grow in the Lagoon sandbars.
With a history spanning over a century, Algiubagiò began as a small osteria owned by Giulio Antonello‘s parents, where Venetians would gather for a chat and a glass of wine.
One hundred years later, the restaurant now stands out in the Venetian culinary scene for its original and strictly Made in Venice design furnishings, its stunning lagoon-view terrace, and above all, its high-quality food and wine offering, entrusted to Chef Daniele Zennaro, who boasts an impressive past in the city’s finest kitchens.
I love the Lagoon sandbars herbs because they give dishes those nuances of flavor and that salinity that are so intrinsically Venetian.
(Daniele Zennaro, Chef)
The Algiubagiò terrace, with its lagoon view and a table setting embellished with colorful glass-blown glasses by Fabiano Amadi and cutlery holders designed by Giulio and made in collaboration with Amadi and Roberto Donà, the last Murano workshop producing tools for glass masters, is truly magnificent.
In what was once the historic adjacent palace’s lemon house, you’ll now find the restaurant’s scenic indoor dining room. The interior design is a riot of “Venetianness” and exquisite craftsmanship. From the fabulous chandeliers blown in the best Venetian furnaces, to the wooden tables masterfully crafted by Giulio himself, a passionate woodworker, up to the works of art like Barasciutti’s photographs or Davide Penso’s Algae sculpures.
The menu, which changes seasonally, is orchestrated by Chef Daniele Zennaro, who has led the Algiubagiò brigade since 2021. A great expert in precious and little-known local ingredients, including Lagoon sandbars herbs like Santonico and sea fennel, he offers a cuisine of great originality.
His creations are a homage to Venice and the Veneto region, with a creative touch that translates into unusual combinations and some fun fusion references.
The restaurant’s extensive wine list boasts over 300 labels, ranging from the best national and international wineries to satisfy all palates.
Enchanting during the day, when you can admire the comings and goings of boats animating the Lagoon, and romantic in the evening when the sun sets and the lagoon turns pink, the Algiubagiò terrace is undoubtedly the perfect location for a dinner in the most beautiful city in the world.
The Secret
The curious name Algiubagiò comes from the acronym of the names of the first owners and their wives.
