The “secret” addresses of the Veronese Dolce Vita

The “secret” addresses of the Veronese Dolce Vita — Veneto Secrets

The Veronese Dolce Vita can be breathed just a few steps from the historic center, in the Santo Stefano district, the bohemian heart of the city, where once artists used to live.
It is here that Anne, a Frenchwoman who arrived in Italy for love, decides to settle down and open the Dolce Vita Luxury Apartments where she brings her culture, savoir-faire and that unmistakably shabby chic touch typical of the houses on the Left Bank of Paris.
Chandeliers in pampilles, brocades and fabrics with a scent of Provence, vintage hat boxes used as cake stand, fresh flowers everywhere, each room is enriched with magical retro touches.

Anne loves to pamper her customers to the point that she pays homage to her “friends”, as she likes to call them, with a Guide Book, written by herself, which contains the best advice on places and secret addresses in the city to live it at its best.
Choose the Santo Stefano Apartments, with a magnificent terrace overlooking the Church of Santo Stefano and the Lungo Adige where you can have breakfast or have an aperitif in the evening.
Getting to know Anne will be like feeling at home right away, but Anne’s “family” is not limited to the Apartments and also extends to the Veronese food and wine world.

The Locandina Cappello, in the central via Cappello, is in fact one of the most happening restaurants in Verona belonging to the same “family”. Initially born as a tavern where people gathered for the famous tartine (canapes) and a good glass of wine, in 2000 it was renovated by Nicola and Francesca. A past in the fashion world, they expanded the venue by rediscovering the cellars with the wonderful tunnels of Roman times that brought water to the Arena.

The rooms on the lower floor have, in fact, a particular charm where the historic exposed brick walls are combined with touches of refined Made in Italy and modern antiques recovered in marchés aux puces across the Alps. Again, as a fil rouge, a French touch is also found on the upper floor where the rooms are decorated with typical Parisian leaded windows, elegant curtains with tie-back braces, and works of the artist Paolo De Cuarto that refer us to the atmosphere of the cabarets of the Belle Époque.

Nicola, together with the chef Pasquale Parisi, loves to do a maniacal search for suppliers which he selects among the excellences of the territory. So, in addition to the famous tartine and local cold cuts and cheeses plates, on the menu there are traditional Italian dishes such as paccheri with Radicchio di Verona PGI stewed with Amarone, burrata cream and chopped walnuts or confit chicken leg on potato mousse with Lessinia scorzone truffle, chef’s sauce and chutney with berries and green pepper.
Obviously, the cellar is equally sought after. It is Nicola himself who, together with Giovanni, maître d ‘dining room, is dedicated to the constant search for wine excellences, in particular small producers and natural labels.

And to complete your Verona Dolce Vita weekend, do not miss having breakfast at Casa Mazzanti Caffè to enjoy the life that wakes up in the central Piazza delle Erbe and book a visit to Palazzo Maffei, a house museum that will delight lovers of Beauty. And if you want to stay for several days, just ask Anne and she will organize the perfect itinerary for you.
