Among the most beautiful experiences that Venice can offer, there is certainly the Sunday brunch ritual of the Restaurant Terrazza Danieli, to be pampered by the most beautiful view of the lagoon city, a fine cuisine and the bubbles of Ferrari Trento 1902.
Just saying his name, Danieli, brings to mind all the magic of Byzantine Venice and a legendary hospitality which in 2022 celebrated 200 years of history.
Icon of luxury since its foundation, the palace that houses it was built in the 14th century at the behest of the powerful Dandolo family, then became the residence of other famous Venetian families, the Grittis, the Michels, the Mocenigos, the Bernardos, up until the early ‘800 when it was bought by Giuseppe Dal Niel (called Danieli) who will transform it into the hotel we know today.
Danieli retains the charm of a private residence intact since over time, in addition to its famous staircase, the halls and apartments, precious portraits have also been preserved intact (many paintings even remained in their original position), the friezes and furniture of the families who have inhabited it over the centuries. Precisely for this reason, climbing the legendary staircase (instead of using the lift) to get to the restaurant, located on the fourth floor, is always a unique emotion.
As soon as you enter, you are greeted by the warm shades of “Danieli red”, the dominant color of the restaurant, and immediately captivated by the beauty of the view which can be enjoyed from the panoramic terrace which embraces an extraordinary 180° view of the Biennale Gardens, the Island of San Giorgio and Doge’s Palace.
Here, every Sunday, “Venice by Brunch” is celebrated, the famous Restaurant Terrazza Danieli brunch which is served from 12.30 until 15.00, and guests are welcomed by Ferrari bubbles (the first DOC born in Italy for the Classic Method and the second in the world after Champagne, certified organic since March 2017), partner of the event, who will accompany you ad libitum throughout the lunch.
The food and wine itinerary, in a skillful live cooking show, delights the palate through “islands of taste” based on local raw materials and iconic Made in Italy products. Everything is, of course, homemade.
It starts from the classic English or continental breakfast, up to sliced cheeses and fine cured meats, salads from the Rialto market and vegetarian dishes with exotic influences. All the pasta dishes are live prepared, while for the main courses, you can choose between noble fish and meat cuts, ending with a triumph of fruit and desserts, such as the inevitable Tiramisu Danieli and the classic mignon pastries.
And between one course and another, you can take the opportunity to savor the refined details of the hotel’s interiors and perhaps book the Doge Dandolo Royal Suite, dedicated to Doge Enrico Dandolo, 41st Doge of the Serenissima Republic of Venice, defined as one of the most beautiful suites in the world and protagonist of many Hollywood films.
The Secret
Often in the afternoon, you can enjoy the show of the falconer, hired by the Hotel Danieli to ensure the peace of its guests and keep seagulls and pigeons away.
