The Loredan Gasparini Winery in Volpago del Montello, in the Venegazzù area, offers one of the finest wine-related experiences: the Music&Wine tasting, where winemaker Lorenzo Palla leads guests on a discovery of iconic wines, such as Capo di Stato, through the sounds of his vinyl collection.

The story of excellence: the miracle of the Montello terroir

The excellence of Loredan Gasparini wines is not born by chance, but from the union of a unique terroir and men with pioneering vision.

It all began in the 18th century with the magnificence of Villa Spineda Gasparini Loredan in Volpago del Montello, designed by the renowned Castelfranco architect Francesco Maria Preti, a supreme example of neoclassical harmony.

The idea behind Music&Wine is for everyone to find a place where they can be moved and enjoy a few glasses of good wine in the company of extraordinary stories.

But it was in the 1950s that the estate underwent its winemaking revolution thanks to Count Piero Loredan Gasparini: sensing the extraordinary affinity of this microclimate with the great Bordeaux grapes, the Count was among the very first to plant Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Malbec on these hills.

In the 1970s, the villa’s vineyards were purchased by the Palla family, first by Giancarlo and now by his son Lorenzo Palla, who preserves the biodiversity of Montello with an artisanal approach and profound sensitivity.

Loredan Gasparini wines, a world-class excellence

There are many reasons behind this world-class excellence, including the “Ferretto” soil: the vines are rooted in a deep red clay soil, rich in iron, limestone, and alluvial sediment. This unique geological feature gives the wines an incomparable mineral texture and tannic structure.

Furthermore, the constant ventilation of the Montello and the temperature ranges produce grapes of extraordinary health and aromatic concentration. The wines produced here have the rare ability to age and improve over decades.

Cult wines, from Capo di Stato to the new Spineda

A unique terroir and all the passion of a family of visionary winemakers have given birth to two iconic wines:

Capo di Stato: the estate’s flagship wine, created in the 1960s and named after the praise of French President Charles de Gaulle, who mistook it for an excellent Bordeaux, adorned with the celebrated artist labels of Tono Zancanaro.

Spineda: a “super selection of Merlot” inspired by the fact that Venegazzù is one of the first areas where this variety arrived in the region and favored by the climate that in recent years has made Montello the perfect place to create a cutting-edge wine that demonstrates that its Merlots can compete with the best in the world.

The perfect experience to immerse yourself in legend: Music&Wine in the winery’s literary salon

Among the estate’s many hospitality offerings, one in particular captures the most authentic, cultured, and relaxed spirit of Loredan Gasparini: the “Music & Wine” experience.

An intimate and exclusive event led personally by Lorenzo Palla. After a tour of the historic cellar, an ancient farmhouse once belonging to the villa, guests are welcomed into the estate’s private lounge, a warm and refined setting where time seems to have stood still. Here, amidst period furnishings and historic bottles, Lorenzo selects and spins a collection of vintage vinyl records.

Each song and musical genre is paired with a glass of the estate’s reserve: the rhythm of jazz or the warmth of vintage rock accompany sips of Venegazzù’s great reds, creating a unique sensory dialogue between sound, aromas, and memory.

Intuiting the guests’ tastes, Lorenzo might start with Miles Davis‘s “Kind of Blue,” pairing them with tastings of Cuvée Indigena, Falconera, and Venegazzù, before moving on to Pink Floyd, with “Time” for Capo di Stato or “Us and Them” for Spineda. Or, for those who love Italian music, they could begin with Paolo Conte and then listen to Lucio Battisti‘s “Anima Latina” for Capo di Stato.

There are many other experiences available to book at the Loredan Gasparini estate—from a vertical tasting of Capo di Stato to an off-road tour—which can be concluded with a shopping spree at the winery’s wine shop.

The Secret

On the first floor of the winery, there’s a special tasting room where one wall is literally covered with framed pages from the French book “”100 vins de légende,” which includes Capo di Stato as one of the 100 legendary wines in the world thanks to its history and quality.
