The NasonMoretti exhibition in Murano

Art Deco elegance on the table

by Lavinia Colonna Preti
NasonMoretti — 1

For the tenth edition of The Venice Glass Week 2026, the historic NasonMoretti manufactory has curated a unique exhibition narrative dedicated to the company’s first thirty years of activity and its unmistakable Art Deco aesthetic; the exhibition is open to visitors until November.

A journey into the glassmaking mastery of the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s

Founded in 1923 by Ugo Nason and his sons, NasonMoretti has left its mark on the history of tableware design through relentless formal experimentation and an unparalleled color palette. Curated by Alessandro Zannoni—head of the glassworks’ Historical Archive—the exhibition continues a journey begun in 2025 to explore the profound connection between Murano craftsmanship and the refined geometries of Art Deco.

Works on display

Among the display cases and settings, pieces of rare beauty from the archives stand out:

The Francesca Set (1935): renowned for its bold colored glass-paste tones (ranging from red and black to steel gray) and its distinctive handled drinking vessel—historically chosen to complement the famous *L’Autarca* functionalist table.
The Murano Set: an essential classic that remains in the catalog (model 04/82), evoking the atmosphere of the era’s grand residences, such as Villa Necchi Campiglio in Milan.

The Vittoriale Glassware: liqueur and ice cream sets in black and red, created specifically for Gabriele D’Annunzio.

The Setting: a dreamlike Art Deco dining room

The *Murano Déco 1925–1949* exhibition is a truly immersive experience. The installation recreates a spectacular dining room where glass engages in a dialogue with the finest examples of craftsmanship and designer creations.

NasonMoretti’s pieces engage in a dialogue with finely embroidered linen tablecloths by Jesurum, exquisite fabrics from the Fortuny manufactory, mirrors by Barbini Specchi Veneziani, the *Diamantina* rug designed by Gio Ponti for Amini, and vintage graphic art—such as the 1930 *Venezia Lido* poster by Marcello Dudovich and Marcello Nizzoli, held in the Salce Collection Museum.

It is a journey back to one of the golden ages of Murano craftsmanship dedicated to the art of fine dining.

The Secret

The exhibition rooms evoke a subtle, fascinating connection with Gabriele D’Annunzio. A lover of beauty and Venetian *savoir-faire*, the poet—known as *Il Vate*—not only commissioned NasonMoretti to create his own bespoke red-and-black ice cream and liqueur sets for the Vittoriale, but also gave the *Select* aperitif its name (derived from the Latin *selectus*, meaning “chosen”) during a dinner on the Giudecca Canal in 1920.
