One of the most anticipated events for lovers of Beauty from all over the world returns to Venice: it is the third edition of Homo Faber, which from 1 to 30 September celebrates contemporary high craftsmanship at the Giorgio Cini Foundation on the Island of San Giorgio.
Over 70 countries, 400 artisans, 800 objects on display on the splendid island of San Giorgio that occupies the monumental complex of the Monastery of San Giorgio Maggiore in front of the basin of San Marco.
In the third edition of Homo Faber, excellent craftsmanship becomes the tool to celebrate the fundamental stages of life together with the small experiences of everyday life. Unique and original objects, made by artisans of great talent and mastery, therefore become the common thread to tell the main phases that mark existence.
In a world where the machine is taking over, it is vitally important to recognize the exceptional talent that belongs only to man and his potential to create balance and beauty.
(Johann Rupert)
The artistic direction was entrusted to Luca Guadagnino together with the architect Nicolò Rosmarini who explored and developed the theme of The Journey of Life born from an idea by Hanneli Rupert, vice president of the Michelangelo Foundation.
Ten “worlds” in a guided journey that starts from childhood, passing through its fundamental stages, from celebrating together with heritage, from courtship to love, from travel to nature, until we delve into dreams, connections and the afterlife.
But Homo Faber doesn’t end there. Beyond the walls of the Giorgio Cini Foundation, the Homo Faber in Città program, developed in collaboration with the Cologni Foundation of the Arts and Crafts, offers a new way to visit Venice thanks to itineraries that wind through about 70 Venetian artisans’ workshops, open for the occasion.
An exhibition that is absolutely not to be missed, because “it is creativity, personality, and character that leave a mark over time, the true heritage of future generations”.
The Secret
Perhaps the most spectacular installation at Homo Faber is the room dedicated to Celebration, where hundreds of objects celebrating the ritual of being together are arranged on a gigantic cabinet-making table: from centerpieces to candelabras, from glasses to porcelain.
